Tips to Bargain Hunting

Layla Grayce Brigitte Desk Light Blue $1,651.00
So you walk or browse online thru the designer stores and think - "I so want that, but it costs way too much". like the above picture....

If you are the type of person who only will walk into department stores and buy what you see on the floor than you may not want to do this but if you don't mind getting on some paint clothes and getting some dirt under your finger nails than read on.

Have you thought to go to a garage sale or a thrift store?

Garage Sales - TIP 1 (YOU CAN HAGGLE)...ask the person "how much for this?" and unless they are stubborn and don't want to sell it than you can and will get it for a lower price. Let the vendor name their price and start working from there. I take my time and check the item out, the worse for wear it is the better price you will get. Haggling is a friendly art in negotiating the price, so don't think you can't...it's expected.

Thrift Stores - this is a treasure trove of someone's unwants. The prices are fair and you can get a gem of an item or two. With a little work you can turn these items into gorgeous pieces.

Online - Kijiji or Craigs List - these are great ways to get a good deal...remember just because they post a price doesn't mean that is the price. Always ask for less. You will be amazed on how much you save.

You can get something that has great lines and style but it might be roughed up and looking a little sad and old. Grab some furniture paint and get painting...it's as easy as that. So what you might spent hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars on you can transform something for only dollars.

Just because someone thinks that something is junk, doesn't mean it is...really it's true.

Also a great tip - look around your own house (or your parents)...maybe you have your grandma's old side table that hides in the basement - give it a new coat of paint and bring it up and show case it instead of hide it. Honestly, the new furniture does not have character like the antiques do...those scratches and dings, they tell a story of history past. You can make something old and dull look new again and for pennies compared to running to the furniture store and paying tons of money.

Good luck hunting for those deals. Share your stories with me, I love to see what other people are doing. If I get enough stories submitted I can make a page just for transformation stories from other people.
